This got me interested in other BOM series. By the end of 2023, I have joined the Sugaridoo Happy notes quilt along. I also joined 365 days quilt challenge. This post mainly updates the Kona BOM 2024.</p><p>January 2024, I discovered the Robert Kaufman BOM and absolutely loved the color choices. The patterns are available at the Robert Kaufman website for free. I bought the Kona charm packs for these blocks from the Fat Quarter Shop. Also learned that some are making the blocks without using the suggested white background, which was not included in the charm packs. I challenged myself to do the same, but I took fabrics from different months to complete each block. There is one block here that I used kona white fabric from my stash.</p><p>Here are the blocks, in the order I made, so far.<br /><br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; I am using Freezer paper technique as suggested by Irene @ Sugaridoo. Since its my first time using this method, there is a learning curve.</p><p>I hope I'll get better as I sew more blocks and avoid mistakes like the one on my yarn block pieces.<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZXBAxHm5Hn0CbDuXYUpLGDJcn1fn4zu0OE0Y1rK1Y2nOynijmXZ9X1e61sHJlYB8pFxJcjh0g-EpBJJqUdM5WgQ33T55VW2iw-ZUFjpWQPG3ZZehBLGq44M1yKo5GRdv6sumiKuRVOkJB0sMxJ6Uy8XqQQYCCtdxXiWVQ5o-LeMCmt3JsftC1-2eTr08/s2001/20240115_161021.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2001" data-original-width="1795" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZXBAxHm5Hn0CbDuXYUpLGDJcn1fn4zu0OE0Y1rK1Y2nOynijmXZ9X1e61sHJlYB8pFxJcjh0g-EpBJJqUdM5WgQ33T55VW2iw-ZUFjpWQPG3ZZehBLGq44M1yKo5GRdv6sumiKuRVOkJB0sMxJ6Uy8XqQQYCCtdxXiWVQ5o-LeMCmt3JsftC1-2eTr08/w574-h640/20240115_161021.jpg" width="574" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRtnKwiiA3jpidao3WDzhwXhYjSNtsxGpY5gmQtgNtVkZDpQ47EDX_jzdxljxd8u-ab_-OHmbj1kPiftzVFTpBAdycHovg5gthtVj8a-VORWtA94ODFNbk7zLz9GvIBU2hTQEiIHCMPLM6l7IOrMUGSoW_nFr0zowlWhsxvzkXHf5OTU0qb8XwnxhddZs/s2534/20240117_234126%20(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2534" data-original-width="1845" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRtnKwiiA3jpidao3WDzhwXhYjSNtsxGpY5gmQtgNtVkZDpQ47EDX_jzdxljxd8u-ab_-OHmbj1kPiftzVFTpBAdycHovg5gthtVj8a-VORWtA94ODFNbk7zLz9GvIBU2hTQEiIHCMPLM6l7IOrMUGSoW_nFr0zowlWhsxvzkXHf5OTU0qb8XwnxhddZs/w466-h640/20240117_234126%20(1).jpg" width="466" /></a></div><br /><p></p>Jereenahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10912333039277132027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2749990303105171199.post-32700061391304674322024-01-13T22:10:00.004-05:002024-01-13T22:19:07.814-05:002023 completed quilts and WIPs along with 2024 List<p>I started making a few quilt tops and they are in various stages to finish. I had some leftover fabrics and blocks from previous charity quilts that are sort of boring. I wanted to make it like-able so I added some fuzzy cut flowers to some of the blocks and some leaves to some blocks. The backing also converted it from gloominess to a vibrant vibe. Cat approved quilt!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgV6cG8L11bdUv1T2i9uXJ2FcM3ETTShqUY66JKY2akrhSL_mKRcj6j58LzUyS15gQ5AXeUOWRicyU4J0DBtbrehhPDOpwD_rgo9sKyWK-rVK4jVxl6fwvqgym2uc0beyou_0xw9w-S6Wak6BUpOLyZwzbG4Jprth5_rRhGqRVqmKwQwfgArOqLqxe6NI/s3264/IMG_0007.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2448" data-original-width="3264" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgV6cG8L11bdUv1T2i9uXJ2FcM3ETTShqUY66JKY2akrhSL_mKRcj6j58LzUyS15gQ5AXeUOWRicyU4J0DBtbrehhPDOpwD_rgo9sKyWK-rVK4jVxl6fwvqgym2uc0beyou_0xw9w-S6Wak6BUpOLyZwzbG4Jprth5_rRhGqRVqmKwQwfgArOqLqxe6NI/w640-h480/IMG_0007.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirS-K49nrPv2QiuIrG7BPeuDLmKLwgd5qRGuwAHVpofKNmOvUcOAEcfYGG_kW64lE-iy8uZ5ZFv8qVkzO-0pvgnJnPGkzXvPlHSOWw7TnafbztrIihBbef59coPdSEjWtx7Wvg3lLLa9j3V-lBn-yaDGTR1QokfE0rxr9i9k044IrGNLHnxaMla1sLY2c/s3264/IMG_0008.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2448" data-original-width="3264" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirS-K49nrPv2QiuIrG7BPeuDLmKLwgd5qRGuwAHVpofKNmOvUcOAEcfYGG_kW64lE-iy8uZ5ZFv8qVkzO-0pvgnJnPGkzXvPlHSOWw7TnafbztrIihBbef59coPdSEjWtx7Wvg3lLLa9j3V-lBn-yaDGTR1QokfE0rxr9i9k044IrGNLHnxaMla1sLY2c/w640-h480/IMG_0008.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqxsKjtCFJZcuE_XBS8cUgCFzFM35FgzeTVtifl-S2108fXSxS6rFr9fohnsx4fOOzPaDh0BTDb99fLVb1qd5fhwbeGEkTYgfJ7k_s69g1ezWKo1UXdDmc53L5PZEI7X39JysKTTnCH-VE9gjvbm8zzXHNjl489qVJzk-Rh2z98Fc64KlFXS1y0EYMqHw/s3264/IMG_0009.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2448" data-original-width="3264" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqxsKjtCFJZcuE_XBS8cUgCFzFM35FgzeTVtifl-S2108fXSxS6rFr9fohnsx4fOOzPaDh0BTDb99fLVb1qd5fhwbeGEkTYgfJ7k_s69g1ezWKo1UXdDmc53L5PZEI7X39JysKTTnCH-VE9gjvbm8zzXHNjl489qVJzk-Rh2z98Fc64KlFXS1y0EYMqHw/w640-h480/IMG_0009.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Jereenahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10912333039277132027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2749990303105171199.post-82557011577036888292023-10-07T11:31:00.003-04:002024-01-13T20:49:18.537-05:00Dream big in Fuscia<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br />Loved every minute of quilting this dream Big panel. Few more petals need to be quilted. The first dream-big panel I did was tide-pool, blogged <a href="http://cooksewcreative.blogspot.com/2019/12/dream-big-not-ufo-anymore.html">here</a>. This one is called Fuscia, I believe. My free motion quilting has improved a lot. It’s much more smooth and I seem to have a steady pace. It was wonderful to hear about each one's process and see it closely. Also got to try some gelli printing, which was fun. This could be something I would be interested to incorporate into my quilts.</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjK91Gm5dQIJuB_UaTXKExzZpxGgRQekol11iesTLG1BNEJPzgdTYWzYKcHLkq6rg_i2uklfJHI01c_z3egY7-zk-2ES_EsCZjxCdraD42aj2UzJq3fShh0yX5HSxF_--C1IVGNKmSxGCYYrA5J2ATsm2i38G92MjwtbvVkCoeZWU8Hhnoa0UkYlO6t=s4032" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="379" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjK91Gm5dQIJuB_UaTXKExzZpxGgRQekol11iesTLG1BNEJPzgdTYWzYKcHLkq6rg_i2uklfJHI01c_z3egY7-zk-2ES_EsCZjxCdraD42aj2UzJq3fShh0yX5HSxF_--C1IVGNKmSxGCYYrA5J2ATsm2i38G92MjwtbvVkCoeZWU8Hhnoa0UkYlO6t=w640-h379" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p></p><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div> I have started quilting it recently. I had stopped buying fabrics since I had accumulated some stash and was thinking to make use of what I have before buying more. But no sewing was getting done. All I was doing was just watching other people sew. When a quilting subscription box ad popped on my facebook page, I couldn't resist it. I decided to sign up for it and told myself, if I didn't sew anything from it for 2 months in a row, I'd cancel it. Ever since I received my first box in May 2023, I have been sewing a little everyday or almost everyday. I also joined SAQA strolling along 45 day challenge. These 2 things had me sewing a few things. Here are some pics of my recent sewing adventure. My goal is get all of these quilted by october 31st.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4Ucyi5sIPRKv1NQPm-dt2_DECYbL0pw4nxDZejrRanT0uCbjbQHEOKxBYTuxA3qN5ctXCoBTN0c3CL9oR56V2t2Xs92GkEeuerNDsPqgydq5txTH1a52yK8YQ0i-IXiIL1p-6901JdWSGcK2zcGATmUzimSDLdVoUJcWzNVsBxasw2fOvZO84nBwaNBY/s3191/Little%20Coffee.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3191" data-original-width="2553" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4Ucyi5sIPRKv1NQPm-dt2_DECYbL0pw4nxDZejrRanT0uCbjbQHEOKxBYTuxA3qN5ctXCoBTN0c3CL9oR56V2t2Xs92GkEeuerNDsPqgydq5txTH1a52yK8YQ0i-IXiIL1p-6901JdWSGcK2zcGATmUzimSDLdVoUJcWzNVsBxasw2fOvZO84nBwaNBY/w512-h640/Little%20Coffee.jpg" width="512" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvZMOW2POL6857MCD3EgFPoPfT5o0DkP2--wcGgPASVqCH4KcpNkz_DbzXAc2dqAjm_nHwu5SJZjDAsemQkDJgyeumsY3yOMYRuyytVidIAh3F2E2ztdSjDBhu1-gq6kJBNFQ1k5bXfryTzqwc2Eh_f_1jf3O1pTqaMoQ0onC2qlrzGdjHO4RLcawxfpo/s4000/Sew%20Sampler%202023%20blocks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="3000" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvZMOW2POL6857MCD3EgFPoPfT5o0DkP2--wcGgPASVqCH4KcpNkz_DbzXAc2dqAjm_nHwu5SJZjDAsemQkDJgyeumsY3yOMYRuyytVidIAh3F2E2ztdSjDBhu1-gq6kJBNFQ1k5bXfryTzqwc2Eh_f_1jf3O1pTqaMoQ0onC2qlrzGdjHO4RLcawxfpo/w480-h640/Sew%20Sampler%202023%20blocks.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif4sLZ5BzcQ5dfm-gtShzwHAb5xq7ot9q-ykhvKzv2zEDuHhZN4iPhT8Lsbr42CqckzTSaw3L4whq4VJy9H5Db90BEIKhGVTWeNftMGu00NGjA169T2vycA52BN7DW5Wmj7MIehvsZCT9uYPrTfTDUepNV4ChH7hTxOprjdzYrk_gIXDh0OwJek8xX4XI/s2901/pencil%20pouch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1840" data-original-width="2901" height="406" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif4sLZ5BzcQ5dfm-gtShzwHAb5xq7ot9q-ykhvKzv2zEDuHhZN4iPhT8Lsbr42CqckzTSaw3L4whq4VJy9H5Db90BEIKhGVTWeNftMGu00NGjA169T2vycA52BN7DW5Wmj7MIehvsZCT9uYPrTfTDUepNV4ChH7hTxOprjdzYrk_gIXDh0OwJek8xX4XI/w640-h406/pencil%20pouch.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8C9FjNjgn0a-pp0_ax3DBMyX52Wkz4YMudUfSy2ZuKF6GtlR6VVHVDoy1vyi2feADzPkfcoi7fCkaViKfXR9g7m6L5mQRmbpw7Vxj4S4eImfzulxQgVxq_sNgPq-Xc7htTXH3K_lsU2UrmMEuExGUF3E06HCD0dXRIv3M2MqWZ92ONrMy84CSGfe8enw/s4000/Spring%20showers%20May%20flowers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3000" data-original-width="4000" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8C9FjNjgn0a-pp0_ax3DBMyX52Wkz4YMudUfSy2ZuKF6GtlR6VVHVDoy1vyi2feADzPkfcoi7fCkaViKfXR9g7m6L5mQRmbpw7Vxj4S4eImfzulxQgVxq_sNgPq-Xc7htTXH3K_lsU2UrmMEuExGUF3E06HCD0dXRIv3M2MqWZ92ONrMy84CSGfe8enw/w640-h480/Spring%20showers%20May%20flowers.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLRDnS6M18k7NlkaVOfLFdItLfCcWq99EQ9_K8jgEKd63v50ybsIT3eQhXAvWVLVTUC391rH6NjcGhE6iPVZgoI1IWD_XnD_KG1vBaYkHQLMptNzvry_jdqmAc7vbVVC-_9z6yc6yN3Vk1lsZbpAyJA1Sr3vIdll9k7JR5C8JtQ5xOMQSKBmRtnxdpwsY/s3374/seascape.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2641" data-original-width="3374" height="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLRDnS6M18k7NlkaVOfLFdItLfCcWq99EQ9_K8jgEKd63v50ybsIT3eQhXAvWVLVTUC391rH6NjcGhE6iPVZgoI1IWD_XnD_KG1vBaYkHQLMptNzvry_jdqmAc7vbVVC-_9z6yc6yN3Vk1lsZbpAyJA1Sr3vIdll9k7JR5C8JtQ5xOMQSKBmRtnxdpwsY/w640-h500/seascape.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div><br /></div>Jereenahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10912333039277132027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2749990303105171199.post-85074219659659222462019-12-05T11:33:00.002-05:002019-12-08T23:00:11.205-05:00Dream Big/Bloom Big - not an UFO anymore.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had this panel made into a quilt sandwich and left alone for almost a year before I started quilting on it. I was really afraid that I will ruin the beautiful panel with my quilting. But it turned out great and I enjoyed quilting every petal. Calling it Bloom Big. This is a picture heavy post. Enjoy!</div>

<strike>I haven't done a charity quilt this year yet</strike>. This is pieced with a quilt kit. The kit came with the teal, white and solid pink 6"squares. I switched the pink squares with the blue flower fabric. It goes better with the teal squares than the pink from the kit. I am also quilting this quilt with ruler foot and a ruler. This is my first time using the ruler foot and ruler. Here I am using <a href="https://www.fatquartershop.com/creative-grids-squiggy-machine-quilting-tool" target="_blank">Squiggy</a>. Completed this quilt 2 months ago and donated as well. Forgot to take a picture of the finished product to post it for <a href="http://cooksewcreative.blogspot.com/2018/10/wips.html#links" target="_blank">FinishAlong Q4</a>.😞</div>

When I saw the panel in person, I had to buy it. I got the teal version panel. Don't know if my work will ever match up to the talents out there, but I have to try it for the fun of it. Here to the beginning:<br />

I am thinking a green center with the blue and teal fanning out. I might change my mind about the green threads, not sure of it once it is in the photo. I do want to quilt petals with different designs and not an overall quilting, since that is what got me interested in this panel.Jereenahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10912333039277132027noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2749990303105171199.post-25900976138548150202018-10-05T12:27:00.001-04:002018-12-16T23:40:13.989-05:00W.I.PsI have a few WIPs hiding somewhere in the closets, drawers, plastic tubs or in the stash. Time to tackle them one by one, so making a list of the ones I am aware of, hoping that these are the only ones. Here we go<br />
1. This is probably the oldest uncompleted project I have. It's the blocks from Sugar Block Club hosted by Amy of <a href="http://www.stitcherydickorydock.com/" target="_blank">Stitchery Dickory Dock</a>.<br />

<span style="font-family: "calibri" , sans-serif; font-size: large; line-height: 107%;">Hello Everyone, </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "calibri" , sans-serif; font-size: large; line-height: 107%;">I am thrilled to be participating in <a href="https://benitaskinner.blogspot.com/2018/09/2018-online-quilters-meet-greet.html" target="_blank">Quilter's Meet & Greet</a>, hosted by Benita Skinner of https://www.victorianaquiltdesigns.com/. There will be a chance to win the amazing <a href="https://benitaskinner.blogspot.com/2018/08/2018-online-quilters-meet-greet-coming.html" target="_blank">Great Grand prize</a> package. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "calibri" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">For those of you who are here for the first time, here is a little bit about how I started my quilting journey:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "calibri" , sans-serif; font-size: large; line-height: 107%;"> I am a self-taught seamstress, mostly did sewing out of necessity. I have sewn pillow covers and did a lot of alterations for Mom. I've also sewn baby clothes and pajamas for my children when they were little. Started sewing some of my garments myself, especially Indian clothing like Salwar kameez and saree blouse. Wanting to improve sewing skills, I took
Sewing Certification classes with the thread making company “Sulky” and was
introduced to quilting and adding embellishments on a practical level. By volunteering at Ronald McDonald House
quilting group, I learned more about quilting and fell in love with the whole
process. After taking a couple of quilting classes online at Craftsy, I started quilting traditionally and as an art-form. I love the simplicity of modern quilts, intricacy of traditional quilt and the creativity of art quilts. I get my inspiration from nature, fellow quilters and quilting blogs and keep my passion
alive by attending a local monthly quilting group called the “Creative Saturday." Here are a few of my favorites.</span><br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I started this wall hanging in June 2018 at a quilting retreat. Laid the paper pattern I made a while ago, on top of the black linen fabric and stitched over the outline by machine with light yellow thread. Tore the pattern out and this is how it looked.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJdPiE1PXtWbVesuwRhLnVyNK2wuMjXxRFUBhAN4MTHm45tBbohkz-fHRAMNcspwo2ThFuEA_J8F6Ig5_VOx6RZb9f9k4NH52g-Vd5PZR2R6kxEHNjoP732O2FecgaTokJjZs6Pqdbrlw/s1600/Allah+wallhanging+before+thread+sketching..jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="899" data-original-width="1600" height="358" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJdPiE1PXtWbVesuwRhLnVyNK2wuMjXxRFUBhAN4MTHm45tBbohkz-fHRAMNcspwo2ThFuEA_J8F6Ig5_VOx6RZb9f9k4NH52g-Vd5PZR2R6kxEHNjoP732O2FecgaTokJjZs6Pqdbrlw/s640/Allah+wallhanging+before+thread+sketching..jpg" width="640" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Backed with two layers of black fleece instead of stabilizer.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used Sulky <a href="https://www.gunold.com/item/1124sun-yellow-40-wt-rayon-sulky-rayon-thread-5500-yd-cones" target="_blank">sun yellow gunold thread</a> to thread paint, free motion style, inside the big arabic lettering which says "Allahu" meaning God. When I finished sewing it was scrunched a bit because of all the thread. So I added stabilizer to the small lettering "Jalla Jalaluhu" which means "His Majesty be glorified". Adding the stabilizer was a bad idea as it was super thick and broke many machine needles and because I used metallic thread, it was overheating the machine. After a few tries, I hand sew the lettering with golden embroidery floss.</div>

I had purchased the Robert kaufman Kona cotton stash builder bundle 2 years ago to make a rainbow quilt. I had a few pattern in mind to use the fabrics. I also wanted to make a color-wheel quilt with a modern feel to it. When <a href="https://www.facebook.com/SAQA-OH-645205952277584/" target="_blank">SAQA-OH</a> announced its challenge to make a bulls eye quilt, I got to work. I also challenged myself to use only fabric from the stash since I have a collection. Randomly picked fabric from the Kona bundle and from my stash, this non-traditional color wheel was born. The grey background makes it more modern.To make it more interesting, I free motion quilted a pattern around the circle first and scribble quilted the rest. The center was quilted with a free motion feather motif. For the first time I used facing instead of binding and I liked the results. It's all ready to be hung with hanging sleeves attached.<br />

Before I delve into that I thought I should do a practice piece. So I picked another photo I had taken and after searching several you tube videos to see how to go about it, came across Marilyn Lee's video series, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCW2E6ge8zI" target="_blank">making of an art quilt</a>. She goes through step by step in making a quilt from a photo. I used her tutorials to enlarge the photo, make a pattern and started the process of making it into <a href="http://cooksewcreative.blogspot.com/2017/11/pansy-art-quilt.html" target="_blank">this</a> quilt using 18 different fabrics. Making this quilt gave me the confidence to make another quilt, but this time I tried with just one fabric for the flower and used thread and seta color paint to add depth to the piece. I used silk fabric for the petals. Here are the pictures in different stages of the making.<br />

This is the first group donation or charity quilt that we did at Creative Saturday group. We loosely followed the prismatic quilt pattern by Karen Lewis for Robert Kaufman fabrics. Here is the link: http://www.robertkaufman.com/quilting/quilts_patterns/prismatic_echoes/</div>

It was not very colorful as we wanted to be because some of the members were very skeptical or intimidated by the pattern and didn't do it. It was actually easy to put together. The sashing tied the blocks together and I think it made a lovely quilt. We still need to quilt it.Jereenahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10912333039277132027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2749990303105171199.post-30148846791499191962018-04-18T01:05:00.001-04:002018-04-18T01:05:42.816-04:00Update on Colorwheel quilt<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Almost done. Decided to do a facing instead of binding. Love the look and the simplicity of facing. Need to sew a hanging sleeve. Hand-sewing takes a toll on my wrist, so taking it snaily slow. I also cut the center circle with half inch seam allowance but only sewed a quarter inch. Don't ask me how and why. No, I am not seam ripping and sewing it back again. So need to fix the extra bulk by hand embroidery or quilting or maybe I'll get an idea later. Really will try hard to get a picture done with proper lighting and better focus.Jereenahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10912333039277132027noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2749990303105171199.post-72368802134367593462018-04-10T07:20:00.002-04:002018-04-10T07:20:22.072-04:00Color Wheel Wall QuiltThis is my rendition of the Bulls-eye challenge at SAQA Ohio.<br />

I just change the background fabric and the quilting pattern. Did some echo quilting around the petals and pebbled the rest of the background. Planning to do more quilts with biased bindings in the near future.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

This quilt was inspired by a vintage cut metal grill. I am also fascinated with orange peel quilts and applique quilts. So it was a breeze to quickly put together this wall hanging. Yellow petals of two different size arranged in a geometric pattern on Navy blue background fabric and satin-stitched all around the petals and dots.<br />

I liked both the lap-quilt version and the On-point version. Once I started piecing there is no stopping until I sewed the corner triangles to set it on point. I want to take my time to quilt this huge 68"x 68" top. This is the biggest quilt I have pieced so far. Excuse the lighting of the photos, all my sewing was done when there was no daylight. Will try to take pictures during daytime after it is quilted.<br />

The last quilt along I did was in 2014 I believe. I really like the discussions, the fabric reveal and finally the quilt reveals that comes with a quilt-along. You feel part of a community. I usually don't join unless I really like the pattern and this time I absolutely love the Wayward Transparent Quilt by Yvonne on Quilting Jetgirl, and was thrilled when she announced the quilt-along. That was in August, Here I am at the end of November, just picked my fabrics.<br />

For a long time I have admired art quilts and fabric collages. I did <a href="http://cooksewcreative.blogspot.com/2015/11/painted-quilt.html#links" target="_blank">my first art </a>quilt a few years ago by taking the Craftsy class "Painted Pictorial Quilts" by Annette Kennedy. I enjoyed every part of the class and followed making the project until the painting part began. I learned how to do painting strokes and blending colors etc with great enthusiasm but really got intimidated to add paint to my project. I thought I was going to ruin the beautiful fused applique design. Finally when I did do it I had so much fun and was excited to do more art quilts. It's not a masterpiece but I had to begin somewhere. Since then I have been exploring and reading books about art quilts. I had so many ideas and yet didn't know where to begin until I saw a you tube video by Mariln Lee on posterizing a photo and step by step instructions on how to do an art quilt start to finish. Without giving much thought I posterized a photo I had taken and picked up fabrics mostly from my stash. It was really difficult to find exact matching fabrics to the photo. Here is my project so far:</div>
