2026 UFO Challenge

 This post is linked up at 2026 Unfinished Quilt Project Challenge. I have several unfinished quilts. This year I am focusing on finishing at least one project each month. It will be a challenge. Finish means complete piecing, sandwich the quilt, quilt, trim and bind. I have set a few rules to help me not to be distracted from completing. I'll allow myself to do quick projects in between like small art quilts, bags, pouches, pin cushions etc.

Rule #1 - No starting new project until that month's project is completed.

Rule #2 - No fabric purchasing until at least 4 of the quilts have been finished. 

Rule #3 - Give away or donate if the project is not done by the end of 2026.

 Below is the list of the projects in its current condition, I want to finish. I am planning to finish one UFO quilt per month regardless of the order of the list. I will try to update each project as I complete them.

1.  Son's quilt - pieced and quilted. Need to trim and bind.
   
   
   
2.  Little Coffee legit kits quilt - pieced and started quilting.
   
3.  Aquarion sampler quilt - pieced and quilted. Need to trim and bind.
4.  Pressed Flowers quilt - pieced and quilted. Need to trim and bind.
   
   
   
5. Kona BOM 2024 - All blocks pieced. Need to quilt, may be using QAYG method.
   
   
   
6. Hibiscus art quilt - started in June of 2021, its been sandwiched and ready to be quilted.
   
   
   
   
   
7. Happy Notes quilt - All blocks pieced, need to arrange and sew sections,  sandwich for QAYG method, join all sections, trim and bind
   
   
   
8. Transparency quilt - all pieced and mostly quilted, just a couple of corners need quilting, trim and bind.

Scrapbusting project

Its really hard to throw fabric scraps away, even the smallest scraps. It has accumulated quite a lot and I haven't really made any projects with them. Recently I started to sort them according to color, which helped me to sew some mini scraps together to make it into a larger scrap pieces. Pictures of some of the scrap fabric shown. Even though it takes a lot of  time, I find it relaxing to sew them.

Here is a quick project done using these fabric pieces. I got the pattern from Moda Fabrics website. You can find the link below. It didn't take long to make this bag. I used Heat'nBond to fuse fleece to the fabric. 

The instructions asks you to sew the strap fabrics and turn inside out. I struggle with turning long units inside out. So I sewed end to end wrong sides together for one side of the strap, turned fabric to the right sides and top stitched the other side with the edges pressed to quarter inch for a finished edge. The strap was too bulky to tie a knot like the pattern suggested. I just sewed the ends together after measuring how long I wanted the bag to hang from the shoulder.

I also added velcro to keep the flap closed. It was gifted to my neighbor as a New Year gift.

Lone Star quilt

This is a quilt requested by someone in my community. It took a long time for me to complete this quilt as I couldn't find a paper pattern. I bought a pattern from Etsy and it turned out to be paper templates and I didn't know how to make it work. I just started with a center diamond and used 2 1/2-inch strips for the log cabins. After I made the center star, I wasn't sure how to move forward. 

 It needed 8 square units to proceed. One of the requested color was orange.  I decided to add that to the next round of log cabins. The following pics show the evolution of the quilt as it progressed to the next steps.
